SharePoint 2010 Blog Posts

October 19th, 2009 admin 3 comments

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the SharePoint conference this year. However, I have been trying to follow it all day via twitter and the #SPC2009 hash tag. There have been a ton of tweets and with the tweets and the amount of people a lot of duplicates. As tweets have been going out all day I’ve tried to capture new blog posts about the 2010 stack and am attempting to put together a good list of blog posts that I’ve have noticed today (and continue to notice throughout the week). Feel free to send me any blog posts I have missed or you would like me to add to my site. So, here they are:

SharePoint 2010 details emerging

May 11th, 2009 Ben No comments

With TechEd 2009 going on this week in LA, details of SharePoint 2010 are starting to emerge.  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend this year, however, I was able to watch the keynote live streaming online.  Between that and twitter, I was able to gain the following details on SharePoint 2010.

  1. SharePoint 2010 will be only 64 bit and will require Windows Server 2008
  2. More preliminarily system requirements for SharePoint 2010 can be found on the SharePoint Team blog post.
  3. The SharePoint Technical Preview will be available in July, however, it will be invitation only with TechEd attendees getting priority.

Those were the SharePoint highlights that I was able to pick up today.  I’ll continue to post updates as I get them.

Vegas!! (and the SharePoint Conference 2009)

February 3rd, 2009 Ben No comments

Again, EVERYONE is blogging about this, so I had to make my heading a little different.  Once again, in case you missed it, SharePoint Conference 2009 is in Vega this year.  It will be October 19 – 22.  It is for IT Professionals, IT Decision Makers, Architects and Developers with a plethora of classes for everyone.

According the Microsoft’s own site, “SharePoint Conference 2009 will be the conference to learn about SharePoint “14”."”

Register for the conference and get the early bird price!

SharePoint Techcon 2009 keynotes

February 3rd, 2009 Ben No comments

Yes, I really am catching up on my blog and writing about stuff I should have written earlier :)

At the SharePoint Technology Conference there were actually two keynotes.  One by Tom Rizzo, Director of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and one by Errin O’Connor, my boss, founder of EPC Group and author of “Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Inside Out”.

Both were good keynotes, although I thought Errin’s was more beneficial, but I also may be partial.  Tom spoke to the SharePoint platform and where it is headed in terms of Azure and cloud computing, although not nearly up to everyone’s expectations on Office “14”.  That was probably the largest disappointment of the conference.  About all we got was that Office “14” will have Excel Services type services for all the other Office Suite products and allow some editing of files directly in SharePoint.

Errin spoke to Calculating SharePoint’s ROI and its Impact on your business.  He illustrated and gave an example of it using one of our large clients and the process we used for calculating the ROI for them.  It spoke a lot more to the issues a lot of people are dealing with and need to know in order to get SharePoint up and running in their business.

Good jobs to both keynotes!! It was a great time and fun to listen to you both.

SharePoint TechCon 2009 Wrap Up

February 3rd, 2009 Ben No comments

Well, I’m back from San Francisco and SharePoint TechCon 2009.  It was very successful and people seemed to really enjoy it.  My presentations seemed to go well from my perspective…we’ll see what other thought when I get my feedback forms from the conference.  I had a few technical difficulties at the beginning of one presentation, but we were able to work through those and keep going.  It’s computers, what do you expect? :)

BZ Media is planning another conference in Boston June 22-24.  You can check out more details here.  Due to some other events I may have going on in June I’m not sure if I will be there or not.  I’ll keep you updated as plans evolve over the next few months.

As far as presentations go, all of the presentations I have given can be downloaded under the presentations section of this site.  I’ll keep this updated as hopefully I do more presentations in the future.

Sharepoint technology conference 2009

January 23rd, 2009 admin No comments

Alright, I finally got around to this blog post that I’ve talked about a few times.  Next week I have the privilege of speaking the the SharePoint Technology Conference 2009 out in San Francisco, CA next week.  I’ll be co-presenting a couple of sessions with my boss, Errin O’Connor, and some other co’-workers. I will also be presenting one of my own sessions on navigation within SharePoint.  I’ll post my slide deck on my site as soon as I have it finalized…probably after I get back from the conference next week.  If any of you happen to be attending the conference hunt me down and say hello :)
